Book Cards For every book that we read this year, students will create a book card to highlight the important aspects of the novel (setting, major characters, themes, etc). This card will serve as a re-cap of the book that we have read and ask students to put the book into context. These cards will be graded as a test grade.
Daybooks
Students will keep a daybook with their notes, writings, and other information from this class. This assignment should be housed in a marble composition notebook.
Literacy Circles Using literacy circles gives students a way to "dig in" to the text that they are reading, especially when the text it something that is more advanced and difficult to read.
Thursday Letters
Every other week students will have to write a one page (minimum) letter to me. This letter can be about anything they can think about that they would like to share with me. I will respond to these letters. 3rd and 5th period will alternate which week they turn their letters in.
Turn in via googledocs folder with the title of the due date (eg 8/16/12) in your Thursday Letter folder.
Writing Portfolio
Throughout the year, students will be working on a writing portfolio to showcase their progress as writers throughout the year. This portfolio will have various pieces and types of writing. Students will be revising and improving their writing throughout the year.
